The slate covering, dormer windows, wall junctions and box gutter all have to move water away from a period London building.

Slate, vertical slating and dormer leadwork
The roof work includes vertical slating, a lead coping stone, a box gutter and Canadian slates. The dormer windows were leaded as part of the work.
At the junction with the neighbouring house, careful detailing matters. A roof can look finished from the street while still needing attention around walls, dormers and changes in level.

A new lead box gutter
The second sequence shows a new lead box gutter in St John's Wood. Expansion joints were used, the joints were double-welded, and timber beneath the gutter was re-levelled so water could move towards the outlet.
This hidden preparation can determine whether a boxed gutter continues to drain correctly. The detail depends on the existing structure and must be checked on site.
